Combining both of my Instagram pages, I now have over 500k followers.

I only started taking this seriously in December 2022…

Here are some key lessons I've learned during this time:

1. Consistency > perfection

When you are just starting out, do not overthink your content.

And most importantly, do not wait for the perfect moment to get started.

Start from where you are with the tools that you have; just look at how I started:

2. Strategic approach

Consistency alone isn't enough. If your content isn't getting results, adapt.

As you start, do not just post for the sake of posting.

Actually, do your research and make sure you are posting content that is proven to work.

My favorite strategy to find that type of content is:

  • Open the Instagram app on your phone.

  • Navigate to the Reels tab.

  • Scroll until you find a video garnering significant attention in terms of likes, shares, and views.

  • Take note of that video and recreate it yourself, utilizing the same audio.

Implement this strategy for the next 30 days, and I can assure you that you will experience growth!

3. Replicable content

Create content you can reproduce. Double down on successful videos and make spinoffs for sustained growth.

Let’s say you are in the fitness space and your video “Best ways to grow your legs” went viral.

Now you can make these videos based on that one winning idea:

  • Stop doing this if you want to grow your legs

  • I grew my legs with this one exercise.

  • The worst exercises to grow your legs…

    And so on…

4. Shareability

Spark emotion in your content to encourage shares.

This boosts engagement and helps you reach a broader audience.

In my recent interview with Tochi, we discussed how she went from having zero followers to over 88,000 in just 6 months:

5. Short and captivating reels

Make your reels between 8 and 10 seconds and structure them this way 👇

  • First 3–5 seconds (Introduce your hook)

  • Last 3-5 seconds (Include a CTA to read the caption or get a quick answer to the hook.)

  • Ensure you write longer, value-providing captions with a CTA at the end to maximize engagement.

Bonus tip: Post between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. EST for maximum reach; this is what I have found works best.
